Lauren Kinhan and I wrote this piece a number of years ago, and I finally finished up the arrangement recently. This uptempo samba has an uplifting lyric, an inviting melody and a nice dose of rhythmic energy. This song reminds me a bit of an early NYV original called “To Dare the Moon,” both in feel and mood.
This is an ensemble piece throughout, offering your group a chance to show off their energetic and warm sound. There is a lengthy solo space which can be a vocal or instrumental solo, or perhaps split between the two. After the solo section, there is a fun interplay between the drums and vocals which builds through the addition of the full rhythm section. This leads us back to the bridge and a nice extended ending. Even though this song moves along pretty quickly, the harmonic and rhythmic complexity is not overly daunting. A solid medium to medium-advanced group should be able to dig their teeth into this one with good results.
The basic $75 purchase includes the SATB vocal octavo, trio parts (piano, bass & drums) and a full score, which will all be contained in one large downloadable PDF. The rhythm section parts are not fully notated, but include some notation, chord changes and all necessary rhythmic notation.
In addition to the arrangement, I have created Part Tracks ($25), “Music Minus One” Tracks ($25), and a “band only” trio track ($10) which could be used as an accompaniment for a “virtual” video, or used in a performance setting when live trio is not available. These various mp3s are available as add-on items.
