This is an updated arrangement of the traditional Christmas Carol, that can best be described as “Renaissance-Nouveau.” The mood of the piece draws from Gregorian Chant and Renaissance folk music, but the harmonic palette is more modern. The song is placed in a 6/4 feel, with various layers of percussion through many sections. A short rubato choral section breaks up the piece in the middle, and then the song grows to a peak, where a 5/8 meter is employed to add more energy. The piece winds down to finish back where it started. This is a challenging, but exciting arrangement, which will work with both small and large ensembles.
