This is a big band instrumental original of mine, written for the 2025 DoDEA Honors Big Band. The title refers to one of my favorite spots in my home state of Maine, Acadia National Park. This melodic tune is a mixture contemporary even 8th feel with a Bossa Nova chorus. The song features Flugelhorn lead with some assistance from lead Alto Sax. The improv solo space is split between the two, but feel free to allocate as you like. Lead trumpet tops out at concert Ab4. The sax section gets a good workout, with a few soli lines, and the brass has some nice shout chorus moments. The chord progression is relatively easy to hear, but with a few surprises. If your beginner improvisers need a place to start, I’ve also included written solos for Flugelhorn and Alto Sax if needed. I’ve included two part options for Piano & Bass – one fully notated, and one with less notation and more rhythmic and chord info only.
The preview link below sends you to a demo “Score Play” on YouTube. The current demo is mostly midi (with real Alto & Tenor Saxes), but it’ll give you the general vibe of the song.
