This is an a cappella original, commissioned by Herndon High School in Herndon, VA. Like some of my other “contemporary choral” pieces, this piece works well with a traditional choir that is looking for a bit more harmonic twists and variances. The lyrics suggest a need for a greater awareness of our environment, the beauty that surrounds us, along with the fragility of our natural world and our responsibility to take care of it. The lyrics send a message, but are subtle enough as to not sound too “preachy.” This is a reasonably challenging, but hopefully rewarding arrangement for a more mature ensemble.
